Therapy usually starts with a 1-3 session consultation during which I gather information about your current situation and your background, including how and when your concerns developed, past treatments or strategies you might have tried, and information about your history including childhood, family, relationships and development. The consultation also gives you the opportunity to ask me questions, get feedback about your situation, and learn what to expect from the process going forward. You may be interested in a shorter-term therapy that targets specific concerns, or in a longer-term therapy that addresses deeper issues in your life. If my services end up not being the best fit for you, I will provide a referral to someone else who may be better able to help you.
If we do decide to work together, we will work to gain a deeper understanding of what is going on in your life and, over time, shift aspects of your inner experience that have contributed to undue pain or suffering. As a therapist, I aim to be attentive, respectful, and open. In general, you can expect therapy to help you identify and build on existing strengths, better understand yourself, and develop new ways to manage and deal with life's difficulties.
